The greatest selling point was the flexibility of David Bird and the Crew at Admiral
and the fact they were producing catamarans designed from the outset for the long-term
liveaboard. During the construction phase, we visited the yard on a number of occasions
and had the opportunity of meeting the designer, Angelo Lavranos during a trip in
November 2007. Everyone we met in Cape Town, from the build crew to the various
sub-contractors, could not have been more helpful in meeting our needs as well as
offering their advice so freely.
The search for our perfect yacht in which to sail around the world began in the UK
when we looked at a number of catamarans as well as mono-hulls. Once we’d decided
to purchase a catamaran, we looked at a number of second-hand vessels but quickly
came to the conclusion that as long as we could find the right deal, new was the
better option. At the Southampton Boat Show in September 2005 we fortunately came
across a South African chap as we were waiting to board some of the multi-hulls on
show. He casually mentioned the Admiral yard and this, several months later, lead
to our placing an order for the as yet, untried Admiral 40, for delivery in 2008.
